The Downtown Development Authority and Harbin Clinic invite the community to Harbin Clinic Kids Spring Fling on Saturday, April 30, 2016. The spring fling is a block party geared especially for families that will be held on the 500 Block of Broad Street in Downtown Rome and is free to the public.

The event runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and features a variety of activities for children of all ages. Events include inflatables, crafts, face-painting, coloring activities, games, sidewalk chalk art, touch-a-truck and a visit from ReRe of the Rome-Floyd Recycling Center. Children are invited to explore new technology including the science of computer coding.

The DeSoto Theatre will offer a sneak peak into Rome Little Theatre’s (RLT) upcoming production, "Shrek Jr., The Musical" with presentations of "Story Time with Fiona," at 11:15 a.m., 11:45 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. Children can interact with the theatre characters and have their picture taken with RLT stars who will be featured in the production. The DeSoto Theatre will also offer tours of the theatre and share details on the renovation work completed to restore the theatre.

“We are thrilled to be able to partner with the Downtown Development Authority and several great organizations to put this event on for children and families,” Harbin Clinic CEO Kenna Stock says. “Harbin Clinic pediatricians care completely for children of all ages. We also want to support Downtown Rome and the many great local businesses there.”

“The Harbin Clinic Kids Spring Fling is a great opportunity to partner not only with Harbin Clinic, but also with the Downtown Development Authority,” said Jim Powell, Historic Desoto Theatre Foundation Programming Chair. “We are also excited to showcase the wonderful talent that can be seen on our stage."

Ann Arnold, Downtown Development Director with the City of Rome, says event partners have worked hard to create a festival-like atmosphere that kids will love. “This event is a great way to kick-off the busy spring and summer season in Downtown Rome!”

Following the block party, RLT will offer a matinee showing of “Shrek Jr, The Musical” at 2:30 p.m. Tickets for the musical are $14 for students and seniors and $16 for adults. Tickets may be purchased at the door or online at romelittletheatre.wordpress.com.
