Job: CHIEF WATER DISTRIBUTION OPERATOR

The purpose of this classification is to perform technical work at the supervisory level to oversee plant operations and maintain safe and efficient surface water treatment in compliance with all applicable regulations and guidelines.
•Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
•Operates county vehicle, various machinery, equipment, and tools.
•Oversees and implements training of staff and personnel; prepares staff work schedules; makes work assignments; ensures staff and personnel maintain appropriate licensees; assigns and reviews work; maintain standards through the effective coordination of activities.
•Oversees plant operations; maintains safe and efficient surface water treatment in compliance with all State and other applicable regulations and guidelines including Environmental Protection Division regulations.
•Monitors equipment operation to ensure plant performance and safety compliance is maintained.
•Completes reports and documents; implements record keeping guidelines.
•Monitors plant inventory; participates in purchasing activities in compliance with County procurement guidelines.
High school diploma or G.E.D. and three (3) years of progressively responsible experience as a water plant operator or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Driver’s License, a Georgia Operator Class I license and Georgia Lab Certification.
