Job: MAINTENANCE MECHANIC DETAIL OFFICER

The purpose of this classification is to perform skilled/mechanical work functions associated with maintenance of automotive and mechanical equipment.
•Supervises inmates assigned to the service truck; monitors inmate activities to ensure security; instructs inmates on proper work techniques; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work.
•Performs general maintenance and preventive maintenance work (such as servicing automatic transmissions, engines, generators, construction equipment, paving equipment, etc.).
•Performs routine and preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment (such as pumping fuel into vehicles, checking/replacing fluid levels, draining/replacing oil, changing/replacing filters, lubricating mechanical parts, replacing belts/hoses, checking batteries, adjusting brakes and clutches, greasing equipment, flushing radiators, etc
•Performs general maintenance tasks necessary to keep tools and equipment in good working condition; reports faulty equipment for repair.
•Maintains inventory of service truck equipment, tools and supplies; initiates requests for new or replacement materials.
•Prepares and/or receives various forms, reports, logs, work orders, requisitions, or other documentation; completes, processes, forwards, and/or maintains as appropriate.
High School Diploma or G.E.D. and two (2) years of experience in automotive maintenance or a related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License, including hazmat endorsement. Must possess and maintain valid Correctional Officer Certification.
